Welcome to the Gualala River

Gualala River Estuary

The Watershed

The Gualala River Watershed is located on California’s North Coast at the divide between Mendocino and Sonoma Counties, just 100 miles North of San Francisco.

The watershed’s 740-mile stream network flows through 191,000 acres of woodlands, grasslands and wetlands to the Pacific Ocean.

As with most North Coast watersheds, the habitat and water quality of the Gualala have been significantly impaired over the past 150 years.

Enjoy browsing through our new website!

Find information about our watershed health, lot's of scientific data, watershed studies, Council activities, our local communities, recreational opportunities, a bit of history, and what's in store for us in the future.

As you browse through our website you’ll notice that most of the references and maps are on the left sidebar. Beware before you click!  Some are quite large especially the North Coast Watershed Assessment's (NCWAP) maps and reports. We’re trying to get access to the originals so we can offer them in a compressed format.

What’s Happening?

Visit our Gualala River Watershed Blog and find out what we do and see in the watershed on a weekly basis.
